Ceiling fan to chandelier: another DIY escapade

Our new Pottery Barn chandelier is stunning, but their quality control is a joke. Thanks for the DIY challenge! At least it looks pretty, right?

Our eyes fell on the stunning 60" Remington Iron Round candelabra-style chandelier with a tumbled brass and bronze finish from Pottery Barn. It was the perfect statement piece to complement our high vaulted ceilings.

While we're thrilled with the aesthetics of the chandelier, we're highly disappointed by Pottery Barn's quality control. Despite our admiration for their lighting designs, we've grown hesitant to continue purchasing from them. Three of five lights we've purchased from Pottery Barn for this house have arrived with manufacturing defects, requiring either returns or significant customization by Christian upon installation.

As you can imagine, after a two-month wait and the hassle of setting up scaffolding to safely install the new light, we were disappointed to discover a manufacturing issue with the chandelier. The chandelier's rod attachment loop was defective, lacking one of the four necessary holes. The thought of arranging a pickup for the massive fixture and the uncertainty of receiving a replacement with the same problem was disheartening. Fortunately, with his handy skills, Christian drilled the additional hole through the metal attachment plate. It's unacceptable at this price point that items require post-purchase modifications.

Now for the real challenge: installing this colossal light. First, we needed to figure out how low we should hang the light. We settled on a 24" pole extended with a 12" pole, positioning the chandelier just above the mounted TV. Next was the challenging task of hanging this thing. A task worthy of hiring out to a team of 2 who have no fears of heights. But Christian single-handedly tackled the installation on his own. I did my best to help handing/throwing Christian tools because heights are not my thing.

Despite the initial setback of the manufacturing defect and the significant undertaking of installation, the Remington chandelier has undoubtedly elevated the ambiance of our living room, replacing the standard ceiling fan. Its design complements our high vaulted ceilings and echos the rounded shape of our large window. It's a stunning focal point. While we're thrilled with the final result, we're still annoyed with Pottery Barn's customer experience and need to improve its quality control.
