I'm excited to share the final reveal of our exterior makeover! We've been teasing you with sneak peeks for the past few days, and I'm glad to say that the wait is finally over! Before the makeover, our house was light blue. It had been this color since it was built in 1996. While the home already had curb appeal, we knew it could have even more. The house was a little tired-looking, with faded paint, rotting wood planks, and outdated features. However, we knew it had potential and were determined to bring a little life back into it. Let's take a trip down memory lane with a few pictures of the home's exterior from when we first moved in.
The Transformation Journey
Surprisingly, we only spent a little bit of time planning this project. It was a spur-of-the-moment decision that started with me playing around in Photoshop, visualizing different colors on the home. We then received a reasonably priced quote that made us say let's do it! Then, we were off to Ace Hardware to select a few paint swatches. We tested Benjamin Moore's Baby Fawn and Ice Formations. After some deliberation, we landed on BM Ice Formations. It felt true to our style, the home, and complementary to the neighborhood.
During the past few days, there has been a whirlwind of activity, but of the best kind! We've seen the removal of rotted siding, the application of a fresh coat of paint to the white trim, and the addition of a brand new greige color that has completely transformed the look of our home. Seeing our vision come to life with each step has been so exciting.
And the Big Moment ...
Okay, enough suspense! Here's the big reveal (cue the drumroll):
Isn't it incredible?! We're absolutely in love with the transformation. It looks and feels like a brand-new home.
One of our best decisions was painting the front porch railing and beams white instead of leaving them the same color as the house. This creates a distinct visual separation from the house's exterior, adding definition to the porch space and making the beautiful porch a focal point. We also debated whether to paint the soffits white. If you aren't familiar with soffits, they are the underside of a roof overhang, the exposed area you see when looking up at the eaves. Ultimately, I made a last-minute executive decision (and prayed Christian wouldn't be mad) to paint them white to make the trim details pop and to create a clear distinction from the siding. I'm thrilled with how it turned out! However, this decision led to a scramble because we hadn't planned on painting the soffits, and the crew ran out of white paint. Christian had to make a last-minute trip to get another 5-gallon bucket of white paint! In the end, it was worth the extra effort.
We owe a huge thank you to team of contractors who worked tirelessly to bring our vision to life. Their dedication and expertise were the driving force behind this transformation, and we are truly thankful for their hard work.
What's Next?
Now that the exterior looks fabulous, we're excitied about getting back to the interior renovation! Our plans include continuing to work our way through the house, spraying the trim white, and painting walls. Eventually we would like to redo the landscaping and back patio but that will be further down the road. Stay tuned for more updates!
